Work and activities at diffrent level

The CWLR members partnered on programme agenda to offer concrete, context-specific ways to pilot the women resource right agenda in different regions in India. They also offer readiness on part of NGOs to partner with the Government and Planning Commission to begin replicable processes and budgets for a certain number of villages, to be expanded and multiplied to every village across India

Local context in India.

  1. 1. Fifteen different groups have drafted proposals for pilots. These need to be strengthened and followed up for support.
  2. 2. WSC included women resource right agenda with groups working with Tsunami victims and unorganised sector workers.
  3. 3. CWLR provided platform to local women for self representation at 12 events
  4. 4. 29 members and friends linked the learning from local struggles in the India case study that showcased the Indian women as solution providers for agrarian reform.

    1. 6. Consultation with Muslim women and their religious leadership on their right to property organised by SDF, Action Aid and Sathi all for partnership with participation of WGWLO.
    2. 7. Developed six state level context for women and land (Jharkhand, Bihar, Maharashtra, UP, TN, and Uttranchal) and learnt from existing groups to strengthen this agenda (Gujarat, Arunachal, Kerela, Madhya Pradesh )

    National Context: India :

    1. 1. Providing input to the National planning commission on the women resource right agenda
    2. 2. Lobbying Ministry of Panchayati Raj, Agriculture and Rural Development to offer programmatic support to groups in rural areas
    3. 3. Engaged with land and housing rights networks like Ekta Parishad, Housing and land Rights Network to develop discourse on women and land.
    4. 4. Interacted with movements like MVLM, NBA and National Agricultural Workers Unions to look into women resource right agenda.
    5. 5. Took on board organizations in CWLR membership to develop their own women and land rights events at regional level.
    6. Other countries:

      Interacted with CWLR membership, health network, Indigenous women’s groups and Food security network to create joint programs at international events. Towards this end one International exposure program took place in November 2005 and several other exposure programs took place between members as well as non members

    8. 3. Impacting Action Aid and FAO to include India Case study in ICARRD and participation at IFSN Seminar in Rome in October
    9. 4. Impacting International Health seminar and introducing women and land dimension in Dhaka, Bangladesh
    10. 5. Presented India Case study in Brasil and impacted the outcome Document for ICARRD in March.
    11. 6. Sent representation in planning meeting for Indigenous peoples forum.
    12. 7. Developed Lobby note for World Urban Forum III in Vancouver.
    13. 8. Developed links with Habitat International Coalition

      1. 9. Documentation and publication every month.
      2. 10. Set up CWLR Web site.

      The thematic focus is alliance building between the marginalised and building networks .A process to focus on women and land rights has been initiated with a rural focus has begun. The urban aspects are now being highlighted. The secretariat has begun consultations with organisations to develop issues around women and resource rights in the urban setting.
