Indian concerns on women's land and resource rights will find voice at the Third World Urban Forum being held in Vancouver from 19th to 23rd June 2006.
The Forum presents a unique opportunity for men and women experts from around the world to gather and share their knowledge on women accessing their rights to land and livelihoods, and to further strengthen the global platform for women’s rights to land and livelihoods.
The Consult for Women and Land Rights, a coalition of groups and individuals working on land and resource righs for women, is represented at the Forum by Shivani Bhardwaj. She will present CWLR’s recommendations for women’s housing, livelihood and land rights in the urban context; she will also speak on the issue of women’s inclusion in city master plans.
Ms.Bhardwaj has also been invited to present the Women’s Resource Right Agenda at the Global Land Tool Network (GLTN) Round Table Conference on Wednesday June 2006 at the WUF.
GLTN is a new partnership to systematically develop land tools, which are pro-poor, innovative, affordable, scalable and gendered. The GLTN round table conference will bring together leading ministers, officials, civil society and grassroots, land professionals and analysts through a women-led process to develop strategies for systematically gendering tools.
In preparation for the WUF Sathi has prepared a discussion booklet titled ‘Claiming women’s ownership of housing, land, resources and productive assets in city master plans’. This has been uploaded under the reports section on this website.
